A whistleblower is a person who reports conditions within the company that they believe are objectionable or outright illegal, and which should, therefore, be brought to the company's attention.

The purpose of a whistleblower scheme is to ensure that employees and other stakeholders are protected when they report, for example, violations of the law. A whistleblower scheme thus ensures that whistleblowers are protected against reprisals of any kind. The purpose of a whistleblower scheme is also to prevent and draw attention to any incidents, offenses or misunderstandings in a company.

There are some conditions that must be obeyed, cf. the sections of the whistleblower act. There are some additional requirements for this channel. The company must, for example, appoint one or more employees to be the company's whistleblower officer, and a whistleblower policy must be drawn up as well as guidance for potential whistleblowers.

Another of the conditions that must be obeyed is that a reporting channel must be set up for receiving reports. There are some additional requirements for this channel. D4 offers whistleblower software that meets all the requirements for the electronic part of reports.

On 17 December 2021, an EU directive on the protection of whistleblowers entered into force in Denmark.
Whistleblower schemes must be established in all private companies with more than 49 employees. The scheme must be implemented and in operation by 17 December 2023 at the latest.

For companies with more than 250 employees, however, a whistleblower scheme must be established by 17 December 2021 at the latest.

All companies should take an active approach to whistleblowing - even if they are not covered by the legal requirements. With its whistleblower policy and system, a company can signal both openness and responsiveness. This is contributing to creating security among existing employees and attracting new ones.

At a minimum, it must be possible to report serious offenses and other serious matters. It will always be a concrete assessment in the specific context whether the report is covered by the scope of the Whistleblower Act.

D4Whistler's software does not store data that can identify the whistleblower. The only exception is if the whistleblower himself submits that type of data in connection with his report.
Reports are sent to D4Whistler in encrypted form. The whistleblower can, without this being a prerequisite, after reporting choose to indicate his or her e-mail address in order to receive e-mails in connection with the company's case management. The e-mail address is stored by D4 The company will not be informed of this. D4 ensures all authorized access to reports and has appointed a few security-approved IT employees who, for service reasons, have access to all data. All D4Whistler data backups are encrypted.
